Querencia

PR & Marketing Consultants

We partnered with actor, director, and writer, Mary Galloway for the launch of her APTN original series, Querencia. The series follows the love story of two Indigenous, queer women from divergent backgrounds as they navigate and explore their complex Indigiqueer identities and their differing cultural upbringings.

In 2019 Querencia won the APTN/imagineNATIVE Web Series Pitch Competition and was selected by the Canadian Film Academy as a submission to the Telefilm Talent To Watch program, which awarded them with further funding to expand the series.

We were brought on to the Querencia team to coordinate interviews, secure coverage, and promote the web series on all platforms.

The series was released during Pride Month, allowing us to connect with and secure some amazing and diverse coverage for the Querencia team!

With over a dozen unique pieces, we coordinated online, radio, and TV interviews and articles with outlets such as etalk, Queer FM, Playback, Maple Popcorn Podcast, CBC News, Global News, and The Georgia Straight!

“For Galloway, creating the series was a way to offer authentic and positive representation for members of the Indigenous and LGBTQ2S+ community, made by members of the community. In doing so she discovered the power in creating a diverse and inclusive set for above and below-the-line industry members.” - Kelly Townsend, Playback

Synopsis of Querencia

Daka has just broken up with her boyfriend and left home for the first time to follow her dream of becoming a dancer. The big city, and the big city talent she competes with at auditions, have left her feeling very lonely. Enter: dating apps. When Daka mistakenly selects “women seeking women” on her profile, she meets Abe, a struggling musician who needs to move on from her ex, which might just be the happiest of accidents.
